Since I've acquired a whole lot of new friends from different fandoms during the past...oh...six months and haven't done a post like this in ages, here's some questions you guys can comment with and answer to tell me a little more about yourself if you're new enough not to have been around the last time I posted questions like this. 1. What's your name? / Where are you from? / Job? / Give any other general information about yourself you'd like to tell
I'm Sara. I live in Champaign, Illinois. Just turned 23. That's about as interesting as it gets...
2. What was your first fandom?
The first internet fandom I got into when I was about 13 was Roswell. Hehe. Which I guess means I've now been doing this kind of thing for ten years. I don't think I realized how relatively young I was to be hanging around fanfic sites, and of course I came across some things that were kind of boggling to my innocent mind. LOL.
3. What five music albums would you want to have with you if stranded on a desert island?
Yellow House by Grizzly Bear, Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin, the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King soundtrack, Lamb's self-titled, the Gattaca soundtrack
4. What five movies would you want to have?
Almost Famous, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Roman Holiday, L.A. Confidential, Shakespeare In Love
5. What's your favorite word?
"lune"
6. What all do you do in your fandom(s)? (Do you read/write fic/make graphics, vids, or art/just generally partake of the lolz and commiseration and squeeing?)
I read and write stuff, and do a lot of fanmixes despite how graphically challenged I am when it comes to the covers
7. Who is one of your favorite fictional characters ever?
Batman
8. What's your most favorite fandom that you can't imagine ever leaving?
Harry Potter, and Battlestar Galactica though the fandom itself is probably much more likely to die after a while
9. Rec me something (a fanfic, a book, a TV show, anything)
10. What Hogwarts House do you belong to? Hufflepuff
11. Got pets/kids? I have a beagle named Casey and a cat, Smokey
12. Coffee or tea? Usually coffee
13. Vampires or werevoles? werewolves
14. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly? GK
15. Cats or dogs? cats
16. Star Wars or Star Trek?
Trek but only because there's a lot more of it to like before you even take all the novels into account. Plus Roddenberry was the fucking man and Lucas is just...kind of weird now.

1. What's your name? / Where are you from? / Job? / Give any other general information about yourself you'd like to tell

I'm Erica, and I live in Ottawa, Ontario and am 21. I work two jobs (one in a furniture store, and another in a wine store) that are completely unrelated to my college diploma (museum studies).

2. What was your first fandom?

My first fandom was a tie between Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura when I was 12, but my first major fandom was Gundam Wing a few months later (that is where I was introduced to slash. Oh I miss those days :P)

3. What five music albums would you want to have with you if stranded on a desert island?

This is so hard!
Inland Territory by Vienna Teng, Star Trek by Michael Giacchino, Kane by Christian Kane, PoTC At World's End, and Prince of Egypt by Hans Zimmer.

4. What five movies would you want to have?

Trainspotting, Star Trek, Star Wars: A New Hope, Jurassic Park, Land Before Time

5. What's your favorite word?

I really don't have one...

6. What all do you do in your fandom(s)? (Do you read/write fic/make graphics, vids, or art/just generally partake of the lolz and commiseration and squeeing?)

I just read. I can't write to draw well enough to really be any more involved.

7. Who is one of your favorite fictional characters ever?

I lovelovelove Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park. I also love Scarlett O'Hara. She is an amazing character, and I adore that book.

8. What's your most favorite fandom that you can't imagine ever leaving?

Um, I've pretty much never left a fandom. I'll leave it alone for a while, but eventually I'll come back to it. I do love Supernatural RPS quite a bit, because I love all of the amazing AU's. Not many other fandoms have such great AU's.

9. Rec me something (a fanfic, a book, a TV show, anything)

Uh, I'm re-reading the second Jurassic Park book, so I recommend you read both of them. I also rec watching the television show OZ if you ever get a chance. I'm rewatching it now, and it is soooo good.

10. What Hogwarts House do you belong to?

I'd want to be in Gryffindor, but I'm totally a Hufflepuff.

11. Got any pets? Kids?

I have a golden retriever named Tucker who is getting on 12 1/2 years old.

12. Coffee or tea?

Tea.

13. Vampires or werevoles?

Vampires, but not the Twilight kind.

14. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?

Fred Astaire.

15. Cats or dogs?

Cats.

16. Star Wars or Star Trek?

BOTH! I know that is kind of blasphemous, but whatever. I was really into Star Wars as a kid, and was kind of in the fandom, but the Star Trek fandom is far superiour to the Star Wars fandom. I love them both equally, but I like the Star Trek fandom much more.

And I know I was around last time, but I just really like answering these things :P Plus, I'm not sure if I did it last time?

I was actually going to say "Or just fill it out again if you feel like it because most of the questions are different" but I forgot. :)

I totally should read The Lost World. I read Jurassic Park a long time ago and really liked it.

And I completely agree about the Trek fandom being cooler than the SW one.

Yeah, I know I did the last one, but I like answering these things as well, and I think you asked different things this time around (either that or I totally forgot). I hope you don't mind. ;)

1. What's your name? / Where are you from? / Job? / Give any other general information about yourself you'd like to tell
Angela / Chicago Suburbs / I work at my parent's restaurant for now / I'm 24, and I'm going to grad school for art, entertainment, and media management specializing in performing arts, but I'm thinking of changing my specialization. Yeah, it's a mouthful. If I'm lazy I just tell people I'm going to school for arts administration.
2. What was your first fandom?
Saiiiiiiiilor Mooooooon. I got into it when I was about 12. Got into the internet fandom a year later. That's when we first got the internet. ;)
3. What five music albums would you want to have with you if stranded on a desert island?
Little Voice by Sara Bareilles, Spirit Room by Michelle Branch, Riot! by Paramore, Home by Angela Aki, Waking Hour by Vienna Teng
. What five movies would you want to have?
Lord of the Rings, Devil Wears Prada, Stranger than Fiction, Princess Diaries, Sound of Music
5. What's your favorite word?
I don't think I have one either.
6. What all do you do in your fandom(s)? (Do you read/write fic/make graphics, vids, or art/just generally partake of the lolz and commiseration and squeeing?)
I usually find places online that I can analyze/critique/review/lolz/squee/etc whether that be on my own personal LJ/Twitter or actual communities for that fandom, and I'll go find LJ icons or make my own if I don't find what I'm looking for. If I really like it - actively, I will occasionally write fic, make costumes, or make stupid ghetto graphics, passively, I will occasionally read fic or look at art or costumes and comment/compliment the writer/artist/cosplayer if I can.
7. Who is one of your favorite fictional characters ever?
Kenshin Himura from Rurouni Kenshin
8. What's your most favorite fandom that you can't imagine ever leaving?
Lol. Probably Harry Potter ironically. Ironically 'cause I was sortof a part of the fandom since GoF, but purposely detatched from it 'cause I was a little older than the main audience until HBP came out, and I got obsessed enough to give in, and even more ironically 'cause I have actually tried to leave the fandom after DH, but now I'm back, and I think I'm staying indefinately. ^.^
9. Rec me something (a fanfic, a book, a TV show, anything)
Bartimaeus Trilogy by Johnathan Stroud. It's a wonderful trilogy, but greatly underrated fandom-wise. Apparently it was a NYT bestseller, but has since been faded into the background. It's a realitively easy and fun read, and the story is fantastic, although it takes until the last book to see the full scope of it, however, the first two books aren't drags by any means, mostly due to the main narrator (Batimaeus) who's hillarious in almost a Jack Sparrow kind of way.
10. What Hogwarts House do you belong to?
I will introduce myself as a Ravenclaw to make it easier for people to "get" me, but I consider myself more of a Ravenpuff. ;)
11. Got any pets? Kids?
None.
12. Coffee or tea?
Tea Tea Tea Tea Tea
13. Vampires or werewolves?
Vampires. Twilight kind and otherwise. ;)
14. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?
I'm sorry to say I'm not familar enough with either beyond their names. I'm not cool.
15. Cats or dogs?
Cats
16. Star Wars or Star Trek
Wars by default just 'cause I haven't been exposed to enough Trek to have a fair comparison.

As usual, I'm way too wordy. Sorry. ^^;

Also, I apparently totally can't code, so sorry if you get emails for your comments. >.>

I actually took a long time to get really into HP, too. I liked it but wasn't completely in love with it at first, and I think part of it was it was a kids' thing and I didn't want to be one of those people dressed up in robes at the release parties and stuff, LOL. OotP was the one that made me give in and stop thinking of it that way.

1. What's your name? / Where are you from? / Job? / Give any other general information about yourself you'd like to tell

Meiou/I live in Cali/I'm studying Japanese lit, but we'll see how long that lasts.

2. What was your first fandom?

X-Files. Oh my first love. I saw the movie recently and choked up on the nostalgia (though it wasn't that good).

3. What five music albums would you want to have with you if stranded on a desert island?

Hmm. So hard. I guess, I'll go with these, although there's a similar style sort of.

Tori Amos- From the Choirgirl Hotel
The Cure- Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
Pixies- Death to the Pixies
Gustavo Cerati- Bocanada
David Bowie-Low

4. What five movies would you want to have?

Raiders of the Lost Arc, Heathers, Matrix, Lord of the Rings (the third if I'm limited to one ^_^), Todo Sobre Mi Madre

5. What's your favorite word?

Nefarious. It's so drammatic and funny to me.

6. What all do you do in your fandom(s)? (Do you read/write fic/make graphics, vids, or art/just generally partake of the lolz and commiseration and squeeing?)

I've written fic, but I'm not good and flakey on top of that (which means the fic is no good AND unfinished, ugh). I read tons of fic, though, of all sorts and try to rec. I've made a few vids and made one fanmix. I was pretty into Trek XI at the beginning of summer, but my interest has begun to wane a bit.

7. Who is one of your favorite fictional characters ever?

Scully. I have a thing for smart and kickass female characters. I have one of these in most of the fandoms I'm into.

8. What's your most favorite fandom that you can't imagine ever leaving?

I can't imagine staying in a fandom for a long time, actually. I'm always on the lookout for the next shiny thing. Makes me shallow doesn't it? ;)

9. Rec me something (a fanfic, a book, a TV show, anything)

Hmm. My hands down fave fic ever is Iolokus by RivkaT and MustangSally, it's X-Files and it taught me that fic could be meta too, that is to use story to make a commentary on the source material. I've been looking for fic like that ever since.

As for a book, A Hundred Years of Solitude is my hands down fave work of literature for just how expansive it is and how it speaks to how we relate to each other/family/history. Not an original choice, but I get something new out of it with each rereading.

So tv shows...I recently caught up with Breaking Bad which I hadn't known about until a month ago. It's fabulously written and exceptionally well acted, I haven't seen a show that good since The Wire.

10. What Hogwarts House do you belong to?

Probably Ravenclaw? If not Hufflepuff.

11. Got any pets? Kids?

Want a pet, but sadly cannot have one where I live. Bummer. No kids.

12. Coffee or tea?

Tea. Black.

13. Vampires or werevoles?

Vampires, hold the sparkle. :D

14. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?

Gene Kelly.

15. Cats or dogs?

Dogs! The furrier the better.

16. Star Wars or Star Trek?

I'll say SW because it was the first I fell in love with. I love nu!Trek, but the original series is hard for me to get into.

Thanks for the "getting to know you" post! I liked reading what you and others wrote.

Thanks for the comment! :)

I know I'm ages late to getting into it and there's tons of it to get through but I'd like to check out X-Files sometime because I never watched it. (Except for maybe once when I was pretty young and I think it scared me too much, LOL.) I bet it would totally be my thing and I'd end up sad that I missed out on the fandom and everything, haha.

Oh yes, it's great to find fic that actually says something about the canon and maybe makes you see things about it you didn't consider before. I think a lot of my own fic, whether consciously or not, ends up being kind of meta-ish with what I'm trying to accomplish with it, and I just have to hope I don't get too preachy and pretentious about it. LOL.

*Nods* I recently read something on metafandom about how there's people who write fics and mean them to seem as another episode in the series and people who write fics to explore what gets left out. It isn't a clear-cut distinction, of course, but as a reader I love, love, love to explore what gets left out. I love it when fics explore what the show couldn't. I'm looking forward to getting around to your BSG fics,I've heard amazing things about them! (I'm just healing from that devastating finale at the moment).

1. My name is Kira. I'm from Minnesota. I'm a student.
2. My first fandom was Sailor Moon back when I was 16.
3. I'd prefer mixed cds, but if I have to pick albums I'd want The Essential Clash, The Best of Lou Reed and Velvet Underground, a good Billie Holiday comp, Revolver by the Beatles, and Doolittle by the Pixies
4. I'd want to have The Godfather, Guys and Dolls, Help!, Easter Parade, and A Life Less Ordinary
5. I like too many words to choose a favorite.
6. I babble about whatever fandom interests me. Sometimes I write fic. I read a ton of it.
7. Havelock Vetinari
8. No idea - I never really leave fandoms. I just sort of drift in and out of them.
9. Awesome cover of a Joy Division song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mm6ycEz2A8) on youtube.
10. I'd probably be either a Slytherin or a Ravenclaw.
11. I have one dog, one bunny, two cats and one small child.
12. Tea
13. Vampires
14. Fred Astaire. I love Gene Kelly, but Astaire is always my favorite.
15. I like both cats and dogs.
16. Star Trek, hands down.

9. Hehe, that's awesome! I love that song.
