1. The 7 unpopular fandom opinions meme. Or is it supposed to be 5? Whatever...

twilight. This is only really unpopular among my Team Jacob corner of the fandom, but I do like Edward as a character. The more I've written him and had to consider his point of view of everything, the more I've warmed up to him. I wouldn't mind having him as a brother. I'm just not attracted to him. At all. LOL.

star trek. I FUCKING LOOOVE KIRK/UHURA, it's my ST het OTP, and I just can't understand why it's kind of a rare pairing in the reboot fandom. I think Spock/Uhura miraculously worked really well in the movie, but when it comes to reading fic about them they just don't do much for me. ninety6tears says they're kind of boring just because they're so alike, and I think that's pretty much it. Plus I'm a sucker for the idea of a little subtle love triangle tension affecting the bromance in whatever way it would, because I have a feeling it would somehow happen kind of unconventionally.

The funny thing is I've seen somebody claim that the only reason people have to prefer K/U is if they think it's hotter, and that's obviously not the case because I think Kirk is certainly pretty but between him and Spock I would kick him out of bed in a second. I don't think this is any big secret. :D

battlestar galactica. It took me about 48 hours of mourning to get there, but after watching the finale I slowly came to a place where I thought it was beautiful and perfect.

star trek. I don't understand why The Search For Spock is usually considered one of the worst movies. I think I actually like it just as much as The Wrath of Khan. And I didn't like The Voyage Home as much as I expected to based on how much everybody loves it, though it was definitely good for tons of lulz.

harry potter. Hagrid annoys the crap out of me. This makes me feel like a real bitch. Is not liking someone who's perfectly nice because they're just so unbelievably dumb like disliking them for having a disability or something? LOL.

twilight. He seems like a great kid, but I still don't really care for Taylor as Jacob much at all. In fact, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because I remember the time when everyone in sortofbeautiful thought he was a terrible choice and now half the posts in there are jailbait fangirling. What made everyone change their minds? That he's now still white but buffed up?

star trek. I don't think STXI is at all perfect in the way it handles/portrays women. Almost no movies are because that's unfortunately just the kind of culture we still have. But I really don't get the complaints about how Uhura has been "reduced to" just a love interest. TOS Uhura had such a usually unimportant role that if it were reduced at all she wouldn't exist. It was awesome but almost silly that Sulu was actually involved in a fight scene because he was always just as minor a character as her who was hardly ever seen out of his seat in the bridge. But with Uhura there are all these huge expectations for her to do something monumentally important just because she's the only person around with a vagina, even though this movie is mainly about the origin of Kirk and Spock, not her.

1: "Star Trek - Bones' essentials" (by duskicons)

Everything a Starfleet doctor needs to get through an average day: Hypospray. A reliable ship. Phaser. And most importantly, at least five shots of whiskey on hand at all times....Actually, does Bones ever even carry a phaser? I can't remember.

There's a funny Kirk/McCoy-ish wallpaper of the same general design which is currently my desktop.

I just made this my new default icon and it's the first time I've changed my default icon from the Harry Potter one since getting this journal. The fandoms I'm most active in are getting more and more predominantly sci-fi and it seemed an appropriate change. Plus I kept the same HP one for so long because the white border made it match the white blocks my entries appear in on my layout, lol, and this one also has a white border! Kind of! Yay!

I think if you watch Heroes but don't like Hiro Nakamura you sort of have no soul. Sorry. I did only say "sort of." :) Without him to lighten things up it could have easily started to seem like the show is kind of pretentious and takes itself way too seriously. Let's just forget that the plotline throughout which he was wearing this badass feudal Japan get-up went on way too long and was kind of lame. (The problem is Ando wasn't there and he's nothing without his bff, naturally.)


4: "Heroes - Sylar/Elle" (by mata090680)

I looove this ship, though when it comes to Heroes ships I can kind of roll with anything, and unlike most S/E lovers I didn't have a problem with the way her character left the show. They're villains and they're bad, get over it.

I'm signed up to write the essay about them at ship_manifesto, which I'm really excited about because I actually got to something first for once. XD But I think the fanfiction recs part of it is going to be a challenge because I can't seem to find much fic for them that isn't sickeningly fluffy stuff with them living happily ever after with babies and a white picket fence.


5: "Avatar - Zuko/Mai bored" (by sharp_pastels)

I'm also a big multi-shipper when it comes to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I've always wondered if the writers starting setting things up for Zuko to have a girlfriend eventually in response to there being so many fans shipping him with Katara. I loved how Zuko and Mai's relationship surprised me at many points because the first impressions you get of it are (probably deliberately) misleading. At first it seemed like she was just this typical evil chick character who was so shallow she only cared about him when he had power and it wasn't meant to last. But after a while I could see how they make sense. They're both such sourpusses, haha.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I get what people are saying when they talk about women not playing enough of a role in the movie, I really do. It's unfair that Uhura didn't get as much screen time as I would like for her to have. But I think it's even more unfair to say that because she's in love with someone, all of the scenes that she did have are now unimportant or aren't meaningful. I mean, she is kick ass as much as she can be considering she's NOT THE FOCAL POINT OF THE MOVIE.

Also... SYLAR/ELLE is totally my newest OTP. I can't wait to read your essay. I can totally rec you some awesome non-fluffy stuff I just found, although the majority of it is pretty porny. I guess that's your choices for S/E. Fluffy or porny. lol.

I really like #3 and #4. Hiro saved a lot of episodes for me and the icon is awesome. And Sylar/Elle was the canon ship I could like though it's too bad Adam/Peter never happened.

I love that Hiro icon :) I'm about to watch the season finale of season one (I know I'm behind. I used to work on the nights it started, so I never got into it before! I kept meaning to, but only recently got the DVD's)

And I agree with what you said about Uhura. Getting female characters right is really difficult. Movies tend to love either having them as entirely love interests, or ELIZABETH SWAN KING OF THE PIRATES RAR! I'd ratehr have the latter, but like you said, Uhura is not a main character. She did just as much as any other secondary character, really. Her role was just as big as Chekov or McCoy, as it should be. The movie is about Kirk and Spock.

I'm kind of amazed I didn't also think to comment on Taylor Lautner when I did this meme. There's a difference between maintaining a positive outlook until I see his performance in the movie (which I'm doing) and just assuming he's going to rock our socks off because he...seems like a nice guy. Dude, you should totally fucking write the manifesto! Before somebody else claims it. Though I have to admit it only seems fair for you to have to pick either TOS or STXI, especially since I know somebody else was given permission to do a Spock/Bones one that just applies to the new movie. (And seriously, are there many connective threads between new K/U and old K/U anyway?)

The fun of it is trying to compromise both of those realities in how I imagine their companionship will eventually develop, but that's not really basis for a manifesto. It would just be fun to counter how many times people bring up these incidents of Uhura flirting with Spock in TOS with the kind of overlooked amount of times Uhura and Kirk showed a lot of admiration for each other, cause if you're going to justify AR Spock/Uhura with original Spock/Uhura, you need to acknowledge that evidence clearly shows us Uhura is definitely not going to keep shutting Jim down forever.
