flowrs4ophelia | "Epiphanies" - a Battlestar Galactica soundtrack mix

There probably aren't many limits to what you can do with the soundtrack for a series about a civilization in which people believe in the Greek gods instead of one god, play Pyramid instead of baseball, drink ambrosia instead of whiskey, and say "frak" instead of "fuck." Instead of making a typical science fiction soundtrack with very familiar kinds of catchy, heroic themes, what Richard Gibbs did with the miniseries and what Bear McCreary has done for the show is create very unique music for a very unique series with unconventional instrumentation and style that has become the signature Galactica sound and sounds completely unlike anything else. At least I'm pretty sure you won't find another TV show in which you'll hear both Japanese taiko drums and bagpipes playing in an action scene.

When I started mixing myself a "best of" compilation of the scores for Battlestar Galactica I was really indecisive for a while about whether or not I wanted to wait until the music from Razor and season 4 is released to make a different one to upload on my journal. Then when it was really hard to limit just the best music so far to two discs and I realized a complete BSG mix would probably have to be three, I thought that would be a little excessive. LOL. So if you like what you hear on this mix, buy the soundtracks and feed a composer.
