THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU RDM. I KNEW YOU WERE STILL AWESOME.
Finally this show is recognizable as the BSG I fell in love with again. So many moments of major goosebumps and shock.
- Okay, so for a while I've had this weird theory? or just feeling that part of Anders' role in the whole cycle of time has something to do with him being close to Starbuck. He has this complete, uncompromising loyalty to her and in this episode in particular he's like a guard dog defending its master, and it just makes me wonder if he could be meant to look after her somehow. In the Last Supper promo picture he is there doing nothing but looking very protective of Kara with his body language and focusing all his attention on her even though she doesn't look particularly affectionate toward him as usual. As a Final Five Cylon who might be entitled to some kind of authority over the regular Cylons and is married to the super important harbinger of death, it seems like he could have a significant role in keeping her from being harmed and following through with her destiny. I can also kind of see him somehow dying to protect her, just because Anders seems like a doomed character, but I don't know.
But now we know the biggest significance of the Five is that they apparently know the way to earth, then again.....*shrug* Maybe I just want to think there's more to his guard dog behavior than it seems because it's starting to just seem kind of obsessive and weird when his unwavering devotion to Kara despite how little she can be bothered with him anymore used to be 90% endearing and only 10% pathetic. *sigh* I think I want Sam/Natalie or something, lol.
- Seelix/Airlock please.
- There were a lot of main characters mostly or completely absent again, but it was okay because at least this time a whole lot of important stuff went down in this episode with everyone else. It was interesting how Baltar didn't appear but was still a really important presence in this episode because of people listening to his broadcasts and talking about him. It shows how much influence he's having on people. I don't know about all the "We're perfect" stuff he started out with, but maybe his message really will ultimately end up being true even if the messenger is certainly no Jesus or even very good guy.
- Lots of people aren't liking crazy!Starbuck, but I'm pretty much eating it up. I love the whole Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny plotline and I think seeing Katee work with this really new and different kind of material for this character is amazing. When she saw all the things she remembered and had been trying to paint and looked so happy she could cry it was such a moment of..."Wow, has this girl changed."
- Athena. Wow. She became awesome all over again in this episode. I loved getting some more insight into her motivations for the way she lives now with what she said to all her sister Cylons.
- Woah, was...that...Starbuck reaching for her sidearm while Anders had that Six at gunpoint? Damn, I guess she meant it when she said she'd shoot him if she ever had to. O_O
- When Athena wouldn't show any sympathy for the dying eight I was like "Damn, that's cold." And then when Anders went to comfort her instead I sort of completely melted. Oh, Saaaam. <3
- I loved everything with Roslin. She's a lot more sympathetic again. This whole river thing that they've kept bringing up since season 1 is starting to make me think of the River Styx. Which would make Leoben's philosophy connected somehow with Greek ideas. Which brings me to...
- I think the most interesting thing about what we found out from the hybrid is that she mentioned the dying leader, which I'm pretty sure has never been linked to the Cylons' beliefs before but only been talked about in the scriptures. Which indicates the humans' gods are apparently not such false idols after all.
But another thing she said twice that stood out to me was "The children of the reborn will find their own land." ...Whaaaat? Who could the reborn? be? :/
Nobody seemed to pay much attention to what the hybrid revealed about Kara. Hopefully we'll see her react a lot more to that later.
- BASE STAR JUMPING RIGHT ON TOP OF THE DEMETRIUS. BADASS I TELL YOU. And now they're joining the fleet? Duuuude.
Overall, much more exciting episode than I'd been getting used to this season. I want 407 now.

Date: 2008-05-10 09:29 pm (UTC)I seem to be the only one who interpreted Athena kind of holding her hand out for a moment as more of an "I want to but it's against my better judgment" than a bitchy "Well, maybe - Nah."
If the entire next episode is about this shit going down with Hera I'll be a little disappointed. I'm pretty curious to know what the hell's going on with the kid, but something else needs to happen.
