The state of the things:
No Edward Cullen, no distractions, no crying, no diversions, no danger, no magic, no monsters, no.
It’s so easy to see clearly in the middle of a bright day.
Along with many other reasons, I ship Jacob/Bella because it's the relationship in these books I can actually relate to. It's normal. It's real. Jake is a normal and real guy. There are no immediate firey sparks when they first meet. There is no feeling like electric shock from the strong chemistry when they touch. And their relationship, no matter how close, certainly can't compete with the intense fixation she and Edward have on each other because of how much he has changed and defined her life and the fact that she is what the Italian vamps call his "singer." Relationships like Edward and Bella's just don't happen in real life, while the way her and Jacob's relationship develops is for the most part completely ordinary.
But I've heard some quote before about how a good writer should write about ordinary, everyday things and make them seem interesting and important. It's not what you write about that matters, but how you write about it. I really don't care how extraordinary and powerful the books say the love between Edward and Bella is if it doesn't make me believe and feel that they love each other because I can't exactly identify with the experience of snogging a cold rock.
Which brings me to this lovely fic, which really should be a wholly boring story if things like plot and conflict really matter. It's an AU that's not even fantasy. That's right, there's not much plot to speak of and not even any sexy vampires or exciting fight scenes to compensate for it. There's no werewolf transformation thrown into the story of Jacob and Bella becoming closer to help their relationship change and develop. It's just a typical little love story of two teenage kids who have no idea how totally different things could have been, though not so typical in the way the normalcy of their lives in comparison to the way things really happen is so bittersweet to read about.
Title: We Will Always Be a Light
Author:
anythingbutgrey
Characters & Pairings: Jacob/Bella
Rating: G
Summary: Billy appears with Jacob in tow and she’s all Cheshire grins and giggles, immature and inappropriate and too fast.
Link: She never understood things like butterflies in the stomach, floating wings and beauty in springtime. Pecked from the inside by birds, now that’s a real analogy for this...

"Conversations We Pretend Never Happened" [Jacob/Bella]
He knows the rest of them know about her. He wants to keep her to himself, even the version in his mind. He has always been selfish.
