I did a big picture-heavy post in
harry_potter asking everyone what real-life people are the closest to how they imagine all the HP characters to look and posting my own. Naturally this generated a lot of discussion about what actors should be cast in the future movies and which ones who are already in them are really bad choices, but my point was only to bring up examples of who looks right to you, as some of the people on my list aren't British or even actors, or are...dead. LOL.
Anyway, this is my own random selection of characters I picked celebrities for. Comment with any examples of your own if you like.
Harry/James

When I saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt with glasses in Brick, I couldn't stop thinking of James Potter when I looked at him. Something about him screams James to me more than Harry, but I suppose he also is the closest thing to my mental image of Harry I can come up with. He's even pretty lanky like Harry's supposed to be.
Ron

A younger, red-headed Lee Evans is close to my Ron. (Am I just imagining things when I think I remember Ron being described once as having big or kind of protruding ears? LOL.)
Lily

Tori Amos is all I could come up with for a real life person who looks like Lily to me, especially in the first picture. It really annoys me for some reason when people talk like Lily and Ginny are a carbon copy of each other in appearance when all they really have in common is red hair. Lily is never described as freckled and I always imagine her with wavy or curly hair.
Ginny

Ginny, on the other hand, I always picture with totally pin-straight, very long hair, even though the Weasleys are probably too Irish to have really straight hair in their genes. *shrug* I think Kate Mara is a good example of what she could look like.
Snape

An ugly, hook-nosed Adrien Brody would be right on the money. (Haha - how lucky that I just happened to find that second image with his enlargened conk.)
Bellatrix

Long before Miranda Richardson was cast in one of the movies to play Rita Skeeter, she was actually the only actress I'd ever thought of for a good choice for someone to play Bellatrix, probably because I know her best as evil, witchy characters in Merlin and Sleepy Hollow.
Tonks

I've quite fallen in love with Natalia Tena's Tonks, but I admit I was one of those who liked the idea of Keira Knightley playing her.
Sirius

Brandon Lee's smile in particular (though I couldn't find a pic of him smiling) really reminds me of my mental image of Sirius.
OR...

I know it's the most typical thing ever to pick Johnny Depp for Sirius. :) But he works very well as kind of ruggedly attractive, gorgeous but not un-aged-looking characters. I never actually imagine Sirius to look much like him, but Johnny's appearance would suit him so well that if he were British I certainly would have thought it a tragedy for him not to have been cast as him.
Regulus

James McAvoy. I don't know where this came from...haha.
Rodolphus

Rufus Sewell. There's just something kind of creepy-looking about him.
Mundungus

I've always thought it would be funny for Bill Nighy to play Mundungus Fletcher, so now I can't help but imagine him to look like him when I'm reading.
Lucius

Hm. Well. Sort of. LOL...

I recently realized Uma Thurman kinda fits me mental image of Narcissa Malfoy:
I imagine that because Harry describes Regulus as "not as handsome as Sirius", he's probably more of a pretty boy:

Date: 2007-08-24 12:47 am (UTC)I think it's interesting you reference Miranda Richardson's role in Merlin for Bella 'cause when I first heard Helena Bonham Carter was playing Bella I immediately thought of her character in Merlin. She did end up being kindof a bad ass version of Morgan. At least to me.
Heh ... I was one of those people was against Keira Knightly for Tonks. She does have this boyish kindof look that I pictured for Tonks, but despite the boyishness, she always manages to look gorgeous and, as you said, have this natural in-your-face star attitude which very much against the Tonks in my head. I always imagined her cute and boyish, but not pretty ... if that makes sense. Natalia Tena looks nothing like how I pictured Tonks, but I too have been quite taken with her version.
