You’d laugh to hear it, but many years later when Lucius is in Azkaban what he misses chiefly is his wife. Is Narcissa. Lucius remembers how on their wedding night as Lucius was standing in the bedchamber faintly irritated while Narcissa took a hot bath for an hour, then emerged, damp and flushed like the inside of a shell, the scent of a thousand flowers floating on the steam behind her. The steam collected on the crystal glass in his hand and he put it aside, disgusted: who wanted whiskey that tasted of lilacs? But Narcissa met his hand before it fell, took the glass and ran her finger along the inside rim then along the perfect pink curve of her mouth, and smiled at him like a cat, and Lucius felt something that might have been his heart clench, just for a moment.

Harry writes a letter.
Dear Remus, I think you hate me. I think I do, too. Now that it's all over, if he were still here, would you –
Harry does not write a letter, but he thinks one, as he lies awake.

James watches the shadow of a few loose auburn strands, dark and offset by the orange glow of Lily’s complexion in the firelight, stilled upon her cheek. He thinks of warm summer breezes and dancing silhouettes when they were young, long sunlit hair picked up in the wind and catching in their sweet, coupled mouths, laughter and longing and the uncertain grunt of a new discovery, new love in the sticky grass. But it’s winter now, and they’re still young.

Draco reaches for the crystal goblet that contains his morning pumpkin juice and turns the glass between his fingers. If he tilts his glass to the left he can capture his mother’s countenance in the goblet – small, reduced, a beautiful but trammelled thing. If he turns his glass to the right his father’s face looms, his presence pressing at the edge of every reflective surface of the crystal cup. A half-inch turn again and Draco’s own face appears, caught between his mother’s fading smile and his father’s consuming claim.

The above are all samples of work by the very talented writers of [livejournal.com profile] hp_literotica. I am very sad (and a little late) to announce that this community has closed. The mod, [livejournal.com profile] underlucius, has made the decision to step out of fandom now that he is moving on to other things, including professional writing. I remember being totally overjoyed when I ran across this community about a year ago and discovered its wealth of delectably descriptive stories, some of them unflinchingly dark and some achingly sad. I rec'd quite a few stories that I found from there, most of which I have honored in "The Top Bookshelf" category of the memories. It was my favorite fan fiction community, and I shed a little emo tear to see it closed down.

But the legacy of HP Literotica goes on. [livejournal.com profile] thesmithy has been created as a successor to it, another invite-only comm with a similar, perhaps same, criteria, and most of the same writers. Give em some support and go check it out. They could use some more watchers.

Although the community is closed to posting, it will not be deleted, so all of the stories posted there can still be read. I will surely be combing through many, many of the past entries now and maybe recommending some gems that I missed before.
