I am recommending these two fics by
moony at the same time because they kind of go together. "Her Daddy Was" was written first and was the first one I read (and the one I personally like more), but it's about something that happened after the events in "The Best He Can Do." You can read them in any order, but I kind of liked reading "Her Daddy" first because it makes the ending of the other one have more meaning if you know what's happening next. But you can probably guess that anyway. Anyway, if I can stop being so vague and nonsensical...These are both about a made-up future time when Ennis has moved in with Alma, Junior and her husband. Both of them turn out to be about much more important things than you may guess from what the opening paragraphs are about. What I love is how they have so much sadness and hope in them at the same time.
