Fanfic Rec: "Conscience" (Brokeback Mountain)

no_eden is participating in the slash_100 challenge to write one hundred fics from one hundred different one-word prompts (and I wish her good luck...shit, I know I couldn't punch out that many fics about one thing) and I've enjoyed all the ones she's done for it so far. But my favorite by far is this short drabble for the prompt "betrayal" which describes a moment of suspicion between Ennis and Alma. I am particularly fond of the metaphor used in the second sentence; that comparison makes the whole ficlet, I think. To me, the whole thing might as well be titled "Branded."
I nudge you all to go look at the author's "Big Damn Table" (Haha) for this challenge where she has the links to all of the prompts she's done already. I like the others, especially the one she wrote for "sunrise."
